What is dimensional (DIM) weight?

To determine the cost of international shipment, carriers charge the greater of the actual weight or the DIM weight depending on the box's dimensions.

The DIM weight refers to the dimensions of the package and how they are utilized to calculate the weight of a package based on its size, as opposed to the "gross weight" that is measured.
To determine the cost of international shipment, carriers charge the greater of the actual weight or the DIM weight depending on the box's dimensions.

This means that, depending on the carrier, a 2lb product with huge dimensions such as 18x30x4, such as a pillow, may really be charged at a weight of 13 lbs.
Carrier-specific DIM weight estimations differ.
